Female Trouble: Stories
Published in Digital by Scribner ()
Author: Antonya Nelson
Average review score:

impressive
I pulled this book up on Amazon to order it for a friend and I couldn't believe no one had reviewed it. I bought it in hardback when it first came out and was so impressed with the stories that I tracked down Ms. Nelson's earlier collections of stories, Land of Men, and The Expendables. I am glad I did as they each contain some gems. Female Trouble, though, is full of gems. They showcase Ms Nelson's talent for finding the fresh way of looking at the moral questions and difficult relationships that are the fodder for much of fiction. And while this is serious stuff, Ms. Nelson handles it with clarity and sensitivity and even humor. The first story is about a woman who returns to her childhood town with her young daughter and while reading the newspaper comes across something that forces her to confront her own troublesome youth. The device that drives this story is so compelling and creative that I was anxious to see i f Ms Nelson could sustain that level of creativity throughout the entire collection. She did. I believe you will find several characters and stories that stay wtih you long after you've put this one on your "A" shelf. ....

Fighter Country: The F-14 Tomcats of Nas Oceana
Published in Hardcover by Motorbooks International (November, 1992)
Authors: Dave Parsons and Derek Nelson
Average review score:

Fantastic!
A true standout among the many books dedicated to naval aviation, as reviewed by someone who spent years in the field.

Fighter Country not only features all the F-14 squadrons at NAS Oceana, but also comprehensively discusses a typical deployment cycle... from the inside. The pictures are incredible--a cut above The Cutting Edge.

Truly required reading for those interested, and a priceless keepsake for those who were there.

Full of art projects to inpire creativity
Just as the title suggests, it is full of art projects to "inspire creativity and imagination." My ten-year-old son, who loves to draw and create his own comics, giggled with joy as he scanned the colorful pages.
All teachers and educators alike should have a copy of this comprehensive resource book for grades K-6. With eighteen art projects that skillfully feature drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture techniques. Each task lists materials needed, teacher preparation, resources and directions, as well as vibrant photographs made by 5 to 10 year olds to inspire young artists as they work on their own project. Additional information includes age level, subject matter, purpose, and lesson length.
As anyone involved with children knows that children are full of creative talent and imagination that's just waiting to burst-FISHES, FLOWERS AND FANDANGLES is an excellent book for triggering those qualities in any child.
Highly recommended!

Cute, Cute, and CUTER!
If your child is an Elmo lover, then it's a guaruntee that they're going to love this book!

The pictures are very colorful and fun to look at. The text is simple and kept short for each page (you know how eager little ones are!) And my son just adored the flaps.

My son enjoyed the Elmos World books so much that I've bought 6 of them.

I got this book for my niece as well and she loved it too. I highly recommend it!
